An academic AI detector analyzes writing for patterns associated with AI-generated text. You can use it to review essays, assignments, research papers, and thesis chapters. The score is a signal to investigate alongside the writing process and supporting sources; it does not establish who wrote a document.

Our August 2026 held-out evaluation measured 97% detection of raw AI text and up to 78% of humanized AI text at a 0.5% false-positive rate. These are results for the English texts tested. Academic writing has its own characteristics: a separate evaluation on 3,000 human-written PERSUADE student essays measured a 2.6% false-positive rate. tropa-2 achieved the highest raw-AI detection rate among the three tools in our August 2026 benchmark: 96.3%, versus 41.9% for GPTZero and 11.8% for ZeroGPT. On 251 human texts, the tools flagged 1, 0, and 7 respectively. The comparison counts confident AI labels, excluding mixed labels. Yes, you can check German essays, Hausarbeiten, research papers, and thesis chapters in the original language. In our August 31, 2026 evaluation, all 300 German texts generated with GPT-4o and GPT-5.5 scored at least 70 (likely AI), and 286 scored at least 90 (AI-generated). At the 90-point threshold, 4 of 15,881 German reference web texts were flagged. These separate samples describe raw AI text and pre-2022 web writing, not a guarantee for every German academic document.

For French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch, the language table on this page reports false positives on pre-2022 reference web texts; it does not establish an AI-detection rate for those languages. Check writing in its original language and review the result with someone familiar with the text.

Check the original passage when your question concerns the original writing. Translation changes the wording and sentence structure, so a score on a translation describes that translation. It does not establish how the original paper was written. For a document containing several languages, reviewing passages separately helps keep the result tied to the text you want to assess.

Use a continuous passage of at least 100 words where possible, and include more of the writing when available. A title, a short abstract, or a few isolated sentences gives the detector less context. Review the surrounding argument and any quoted material when interpreting the result.

No. AI detection looks for patterns associated with generated writing. Plagiarism checking compares text against existing sources. This tool does not provide a source-matching plagiarism check, and a low AI score does not confirm originality or citation accuracy.

tropa-2 can identify some AI-generated writing after editing and can show a “possibly humanized” hint when that signal is present. Our held-out evaluation detected up to 78% of text processed by dedicated humanizer tools. Paraphrasing, translation, and substantial rewriting can change the signal, so the absence of a flag does not establish that a passage was written without AI.

No. Both false positives and false negatives are possible. Review drafts, source notes, revision history, and the student’s explanation of their work. Use the result as one input to your institution’s review process, never as the sole basis for a grade or misconduct decision.
